About Us

THERAPEUTIC FOSTER CARE – INDIVIDUAL/GROUP THERAPY – SPECIALIZED TRAINING

“We are committed to enriching communities by strengthening family relationships and healing trauma of abused and neglected children.”

At Families First of Virginia, our purpose is to provide services to all families involved with the foster child and to efficiently assess each branch of the “family system” to determine treatment needs, parenting capacities, reunification possibilities, and/or permanency plans that meet the child’s best interest. It is our philosophy that children heal wounds from trauma when they are in safe, stable committed homes where the parent is the catalyst for change.

Training classes have just begun. But it’s not too late. Please RSVP by email by clicking here or phone, 757-689-3818. We look forward to seeing you!

Families First of Virginia provides therapeutic foster care services to children under the age of 21 years old.  Our programs are open to all children without regard to race, national origin, or sex.  Children with handicapping conditions either physical or mental will be accepted when there is an appropriate foster home match that can adequately accommodate and provide for their needs.

Our philosophy is that children heal wounds from trauma when they are placed in a safe, stable, committed home whereas the parent (biological, foster, or adoptive) is the catalyst for change and growth versus the social worker/case manager.  Therefore, although we provide services directly to the youth, Families First of Virginia also focuses on direct service to our foster families as we empower parents and families by using a Family Focused Treatment approach.  Families First of Virginia provides intensive case management services to youth and families, reducing the number of service providers needed to stabilize and maintain a foster home and a child’s placement.

Families First of Virginia has been established in order to decrease the length of time a child languishes in foster care and to promote permanency.
